Valley
Forge Sports, Inc.
who markets Valley Forge Golf Gloves, has been in business nearly
a quarter century.
Starting out
in 1976 with one of the earliest versions of a synthetic golf
glove, they specialize in gloves, but sold several other lines,
including putters, umbrellas, bags, and other accessories.
As synthetic
gloves slowly gained market acceptance through the late seventies,
Valley Forge gained a regional foothold for glove sales in the
Mid-Atlantic area. In the mid-1980s the original owners
decided to sell the business to Richard Greene and a small group
of backers who started marketing and developing the line on a
more national scale, focusing on golf glove sales to pro shops.
Since
the early 1990s Valley Forge has adopted a niche marketing
concept that compliments their aggressive product innovation philosophy.
Since 1991, they have launched well over a half dozen new target
market golf gloves and revamped their packaging, making
it more retail oriented.
With the growth
through the late 1980s, Valley Forge realized that their
brand, as a small market shareholder, would have better success
positioning itself in unique product areas that the much larger
national brands werent interested in. Hence, they reached
out to women golfers, youth golfers, older golfers, price conscious
buyers, as well as winter players, with a varied array of products.
Heading
this parade of unique products is Valley Forges unique WINDSTOPPER®
Winter Gloves. These gloves combine two breathable materials
WINDSTOPPER® fleece backing and Pittards® leather
palm for the ultimate in winter glove breathability, performance
and comfort.
The Cabretta-Flex
Golf Glove is made of top-of-the-line cabretta leather utilizing
a vented style design using CoolMax® to add more flexibility
and stretch, improving the fit.
Currently, Valley
Forge Sports, Inc. has nearly a dozen gloves in its Valley Forge
Golf Gloves line. A cresting program is also available. While
many of the smaller size glove manufacturers continue to imitate
the large market share holders like Foot-Joy, Wilson and Titleist,
Valley Forge is actively pursuing the niche marketing philosophy
with innovative products targeted to specific customer profiles.
As retailers and golf shops feed back positive results regarding
sales and ease-of-merchandising, Valley Forge is confident that
they are pursuing the right market strategy.
Valley Forge
Sports, Inc. manufactures and markets Valley Forge Golf Gloves
and accessories in the U.S. and abroad. Valley Forge specializes
in synthetic and leather gloves sold through pro shops and other
retail facilities. In 1996 the company celebrated its twentieth
year in business, having sold well in excess of two million gloves
since its start in 1976. The company is represented by a network
of 50 representatives and sales agents.
