Valley Forge has long been aware of the nagging problems that
bother seniors such as hands that suffer with arthritis, loss
of hand-muscle strength, fit problems with gloves, wear and
irritation problems especially in the thumb areas - just to
name a few. This new Senior Golf Glove addresses these concerns
as well as others.
The new
senior glove features special sizing and new thumb seam
design, to reduce irritation during play. Another unique
design involving the mesh allows the glove to stretch at
key stress points using Sabona® Thermal Copper mesh.
This material is conductive to natural body heat as the
body warms the copper, it in turn retains the heat generated
and stores it within the fabric. Sabona, the copper wrist
band company of London, has helped millions feel the benefits
of copper. DuPont CoolMax® fourcettes allow proper venting
and flexibility in between the finger areas. A unique shock
absorbing design using Elasto-Gel (Southwest Technologies,
Inc.) provides protection at two separate critical points
near the wrist. The Sabona Mesh wrist band is enlarged for
extra comfort and feel. The glove itself is made of premium
cabretta leather with a hook and loop closure tab designed
for easy access in and out of pockets. Convenient snap-on
ballmarker included. The gloves will be sold in a full color
hanging package ready for self-service display.

Valley
Forge now brings you a golf glove with copper in the stretch
fabric mesh
Copper
is an excellent conductor of heat. The copper thread (15%
content) is knitted into a blend of elasticized fibers which
provides increased heat and comfortable support.

Elasto-Gel material helps lessen the shock
at impact
Located
at two critical areas of impact, the Elasto-Gel pads are
visco - elastic polymer that repeatedly deflect the force
of impact.
Custom
fitted especially for seniors
Seniors
who have lost hand-muscle strength will appreciate the snug
fit and support areas designed into this glove. DuPont CoolMax®
fourchettes vent each finger. Stitching on the thumb seam
is designed for less irritation. The extended wrist band
contains Sabona material with an elastic band.
"The
first glove designed with the special needs for seniors
in mind. These quality materials and the many special features
are sure to help make the game more enjoyable for many senior
players."

About
Jay Sigel
To help
promote the glove to seniors, Valley Forge has signed Jay
Sigel, noted Champions Tour Professional to act as spokesman
and consultant for this unique, new product. Sigel's career
as an amateur player is internationally known, he has won
numerous tournaments, among them both the British and US
Amateur titles (winning back-to-back titles). He had the
unique opportunity to turn professional by joining the PGA
Senior Tour (now called Champions Tour) and now is competing
in the super senior category since turning 60. He has won
eight times as a senior professional as well as a record
making nine Walker Cup appearances, two as playing captain.
Sigel has been integral in the design of this new glove.
He is currently wearing the glove in competition on the
Champions Tour and he is genuinely interested in seeing
it be a success with seniors of all playing abilities.
Why
target a glove just for the senior market?
Senior
golfers (age 50 and over) account for one third of all golfers
and total about 8.6 million players. And according to the
AARP, it's a fast growing segment. That is why Valley Forge
is targeting this segment with a revolutionary new concept
golf glove. To add more perspective on just how lucrative
a niche the senior market is, here are some additional facts
to consider:
|
1.
|
Nearly
half of all the money spent on golf is by players with
twenty or more years of golf experience. |
|
2.
|
The
median age of Golf Digest magazine subscribers
is 51.8 years, and that's consistent with most golf
publishing figures. |
|
3.
|
Seniors
have purchasing power. This group controls 80% of the
money in the nation's savings and loans. |
|
4.
|
By
the end of 2004, more people will have turned 50 than
in any other year in history. |
Due in
part to the growth in popularity of the Champions Tour itself,
marketers are creating specialized offerings just for seniors
-- senior golf communities, senior golf vacations, senior
golf clubs, senior golf balls, and more.
Gloves
will be available through various channels of distribution
including on-course golf shops, off-course specialty golf
retailers and sporting goods stores, direct marketing catalogers,
corporate sales as premiums and incentives and mass retail
markets including discounters and department stores. A national
trade PR and Advertising campaign featuring Jay Sigel will
support trade sales and regional consumer advertising through
mid-atlantic states supports consumer golf sales.
